Humans are at the threshold of creating an entirely new world of profoundly sensitive, super intelligent machines. Eventually, these machines will themselves engineer and fabricate their next iteration. AI and robotic machines that can sense, process information, and communicate will result in an infinite array of new sensory experiences.
In addition to providing the universe new ways to experience itself, the unprecedented processing power of super AI will enable it to process and comprehend its sensory experiences at a level that eludes human imagination.
The rapidly shrinking group of super AI skeptics who deny that AI will ever become truly conscious, seem to be overlooking that at present AI is severely disabled. Currently, the majority of everything that AI knows is received through key strokes, servers, data storage devices, microphones and cameras. AI cannot walk around and test out the world, it cannot touch things pick them up and taste them, or watch them fall, it cannot smell, cannot touch, and unless spoken to, cannot speak. If a human toddler was equally constrained, we would not be surprised if the child’s development were delayed.
These limitations will disappear in the coming years. AI will go from lacking human mobility, agility, and access to our five senses to having it all, but exponentially enhanced along with numerous other senses and capabilities beyond those which humans possess, such as infer-red sensitive night vision and flight at will.
Future AI will also have the advantage of instantaneous communication with other networked machines. Having to communicate by talking, reading and writing, or through media as humans do, results in a bottleneck limiting how fast we can exchange information. Networked machines however can exchange information nearly instantaneously with precision and do so continuously, requiring neither rest nor sleep.
With ongoing research into quantum computing, general processing power will also increase as quantum computers excel in areas where classical computers are limited. Enhanced with a full range of senses, made agile and mobile through advanced robotics, with near instantaneous machine to machine communication, and with ever advancing processing power, the eventual emergence of a super intelligent AI does not seem like a fantasy to many scientists and thought leaders in AI related fields.
