When events overwhelm us with adversity or sadness it is crucial that our immediate response is effective. In challenging circumstances, some might go into blaming mode, directing anger and frustration at others, or alternatively, at themselves triggering self-criticism and feelings of worthlessness.
For example, a critical event like a motorist crashing into your car can cause you to have a sudden cascade of emotions which diminish your ability for a rational effective response. Often parties to a traffic accident will emerge from their vehicles yelling — this is what a strong causal consciousness can help us avoid. When we perceive events with metawarness, blaming feels unnecessary and unjustified. Our thoughts and emotions become free to focus on responding to events as effectively as we can and avoid further inflaming an already volatile situation.
Truly understanding and accepting that given the determinants, events could not have occurred otherwise gives us a sense of serenity that helps us deal more effectively with whatever we encounter. This sense of serenity should not be confused with the fatalistic delusion that how we act does not matter. On the contrary, the greater the challenge the more crucial that our response is calm, and centered — precisely what metawareness supports.
