Sometimes an epiphany comes after working long and diligently to solve a problem, other times a solution may be found spontaneously.
It doesn’t matter if the problem is creative, related to business, people related, mechanical, mathematical, or scientific — the moment we hit on a solution it can feel as if we have tapped into something involving a universal truth. We have found a proverbial key that unlocked the answer we were seeking. Sometimes these are called “ah ha moments.”
As with other naturalistic spiritual experiences, epiphanies interrupt our normal internal thought process and, at least for a split second, we become cognitively connected to something approaching a universal, or at least, an intersubjective truth. Witnessing an artistic work that is inspired and well executed can also be a transcendent experience, whisking us away from our normal everyday thoughts. This is true for all forms of art including music, prose, poetry, visual art, performance on stage or screen, and dance.
