Both Naturalistic Support groups and Experimental Zone meetings can be adopted for children. When introduced sufficiently early, Naturalistic Humanism can help children avoid becoming misanthropic, judgmental, and blaming themselves and others. Naturalistic Support groups for children would focus on developing emotional intelligence. Children can understand the concepts which comprise the naturalistic model — that we naturally want to cooperate and contribute, that everything in our world is connected by cause and effect, and that the way that people behave is also caused — the result of what happens in their lives.
Most Naturalistic Support techniques can be expressed so that children can understand them. For example, instead of judgmental words using words that are descriptive. There are many educational tools available to teach emotional intelligence including emotion flash cards, evocative images which inspire making up a story, self-awareness techniques, and other games and activities.
Experimental Zone meetings for children will offer a variety of age appropriate experiments to help children apply their natural curiosity and develop their experimental mindset. In Experimental Zone meetings children will also learn child-friendly meditation techniques including breathing awareness, body awareness, guided meditations, visualizations, and mindfulness. Experimental activities are likely to come more naturally to children then to adults.
Children automatically have many of the qualities that adults have to work to cultivate, including being creative, experimental, and knowing how to have fun.
