Having the ability to learn by reflecting on past experiences, and preparing for the future by imagining possible upcoming scenarios are crucial attributes to human success. But sometimes the way we think about the past or the future is counter-productive. Regretting the past or worrying about a hypothetical future which may never materialize can cause us a surprising amount of emotional suffering. Additionally, ruminating on moments that have past, or on future moments that do not exist, directs our attention away from the time that matters the most — the present.
Applying Metawarness we can understand that, the determinants being what they were, no matter what happened in the past, events occurred the only way they could have. Metawarness also helps us recognize that since future outcomes occur only as the preceding determinates allow, stress and anxiety cannot help us achieve the outcomes we desire but, if we are fully present to the moment we occupy, our chances significantly improve.
