Thinking of humankind as an ongoing art project of intentionality, imagination, and experiment provides a useful vantage point. If you received hand blown Murano glass from Venice with some pieces cracked or broken you would not decide that the compromised items represented the essential nature of the art work. Instead, you would realize that the pieces that did arrive in pristine condition indicate the potential for all the rest, if it were totally “handled with care.” Although few humans have been lucky enough to have had their social nature totally supported, they are, nonetheless, an indicator of what is possible for all of humankind.
