The Flexibility of Naturalistic Support Groups

By developing our capacity for honest and intimate communication Naturalistic Support groups will be beneficial to all of our relationships including those between friends, romantic partners, neighbors, community members, business associates, married couples, and families.  The groups can provide parent-child mediation, team building, address conflict in the workplace, facilitate crime victim restorative justice communication, and can be used in prisons and preventative programs for at risk youth. As Naturalistic Humanist communities develop, specialized Naturalistic Support groups could become available.  Groups can apply the Naturalistic Model to concerns such as child raising, alcohol or substance dependency, grief and bereavement, family, workplace and career, physical or mental illness, or disability, life transitions, senior-hood and senescence, crime or other anti-social behavior, and joblessness.  Occasionally, however, an individual with a specific mental health need, or a problem within a marriage or a family, may require a level of support beyond what a peer based group can provide.  In such cases the group may suggest seeking out the help of a professional.
