Despite the portrayal in traditional and popular culture of people as being primarily selfish, vain, competitive, aggressive, greedy, and disinclined to contribute unless coerced, the preponderance of social science disagrees. Social science and neuroscience have repeatedly demonstrated that unless diminished in some critical way, a healthy person is naturally inclined to be caring and cooperative with a strong desire to participate and contribute. Unfortunately, this proanthropic view is rarely promoted in mainstream culture.
